Ransomware

is a type of malware that prevents or limits users from accessing their system. This type of malware forces its victims to pay the ransom through certain online payment methods in order to grant access to their systems, or to get their data back. Some ransomware encrypts files (called Cryptolocker). more info

Some basic steps after you have been hit:

• Seize the Workstation
• Isolate the system from the Network
• Run system checks
• Find the infection and remove the attachment

Last but certainly not least make sure you run a training session with employees.  Advocate customers and employees to promote self-reporting and avoid making people feel like they’ll get in trouble for it.
